It’s all in the eyeliner!

Eyeliner is one of my essentials when I’m really wanting to enhance my eyes or a client’s. Even the smallest line along your lashes can make a huge difference in your look. However, the biggest question I get from clients is “Which type should I choose?” Here is a quick overview!

Powder: Out of all of the eyeliners, the powder application is the easiest to use. Powders are great for dramatic or soft smokey eye looks. Downfall to powder…oily skin can’t keep this liner on for long. Even a waterproof powder can be an issue. A primer can help solve this problem.

Liquid: If you love a dramatic cat eye or love the arabic inspired makeup looks, liquid liner is great. The application is my favorite because I dont pull or tug on my eyes. However, working with liquid liner takes practice. And if you’re looking for a more natural look, then I recommend powder liners or a gel you can smudge out. Definitely play with liquid liner looks at home before pulling the sexy cat eye look out ten minutes before your man is coming to pick you up!

Pencil/Retractable: Pencil liners are something pretty much everyone is familiar with. Easy to use for classic smudging, light lining or even smoking out the eye. Pencils can pull and tug on your lid and don’t always lay pigment as evenly. Look for liners that have a nice glide when you try them out (why I love places like Sephora with testers!) You will have an easier time controlling the color.

Kohl: kohl liner are similar to the pencil and retractable eyeliners, but tend to thicker and more cream based than both. The best eye makeup looks created with kohl liners are smoky eye looks or any makeup look using a lot of smudging towards the outer corners of the eye. The kohl is also great for lining both the waterlines.

Gel: By far the most versatile of the liners, gel liners can be used to create dramatic or soft looks. If you are looking to achieve just about any type of eyeliner style, you cannot go wrong with the gel liner. It goes on very smooth and does not feel heavy. You can easily fix mistakes with gel liners and the color choices in gel liners are great! There are even pencil gel liners for those of you who prefer a pencil style liner and looking for a smooth application.

As always, it really is a personal preference. But if you love to pay around with different looks its great to know your options!

Have a great night!
